Leadership
Phil Brown, President and CEO, is a Licensed Professional Engineer with more than 30 years experience in complex system development. A majority of his experience is in leading systems engineering teams in the aerospace industry. Significant accomplishments include:
- Starting a pilot project using web resources as the communication backbone for a weapon system product development team (PDT). This prototype evolved into a collaboration tool being used by a 100 person prime contractor PDT, several subcontractors, and the customer community.
- Performing program risk assessments that led to millions of dollars of company funds being allocated to recommended risk abatement measures. These measures contributed to the successful completion of a $160 million flight test program.
- Leading a collaboration effort between a U.S. and a French engineering team. After being picked to finish last in a U.S. government competition, our multifunctional team was rated first technically.
Phil is active in the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). He has authored several technical papers on systems engineering applications, served as a theme editor for INCOSE's quarterly magazine, and served a number of years as the co chair of INCOSE's Enducation and Research Technical Commitee.
Phil has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Ohio State University.
Jack Lavender, Chief Technical Officer, recently completed work for an Internet startup developing a system for consumers to compare and select an electricity provider in deregulated environments.
Before joining Systems Engineering Associates, he was a Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. One of his major accomplishments was creating a collaborative extranet to enhance a major weapon system program's IPDT development activities. Major projects have included modeling & simulation of weapon systems, and worked Information Technology research projects such as non-linear information browsing and neural network applications.
Other entreprenurial activities include building a Web hosting company and developing new Internet applications.
Jack has a B.A and M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington.
